TRAINING PROVIDERS APPOINTED FOR REGIONAL ACE ROLL-OUT
2 August 2004
The North of England Microelectronics Institute (NEMI) has appointed training providers from across the region to deliver the new ACE (Adult Competence in Engineering) qualification.
They include Rolls Royce, North East Chamber of Commerce, SW Durham Training, LDR2, NETA Training and Hartlepool College.
A limited number of places are still available for the programme, which is due to be completed by March 2005. It is aimed at employees over 25 years of age, who have no formal qualifications but wish to achieve NVQ level 3. The North East Adult Skills Pilot provides the funding for the ACE programme.
The objective of ACE is to improve skills and productivity in engineering and manufacturing facilities in the North East. It was developed specifically for the adult workforce and designed in collaboration with companies in the region.
120 staff participated in the pilot programme last year from companies such as Architectural Metalworkers, Atmel, Mitchel Bearings, Nissan, Railway Performance, Responsive Engineering, Sanofi Synthelabo and Stannah Stairlifts.
The qualification is based on nationally recognised NVQ standards and endorsed by SEMTA and EMTA Awards Ltd, who award the qualification. Key features of ACE are that it is flexible and work based.
