CAREER START FOR GRADUATES AT SMARTWORKS IT
26 August 2008
Two Northumbria University graduates have found employment in a fast growing IT company.
Smartworks IT, which is based in the Fabriam Centre in North Tyneside, has recruited Sardar Jaf, 28, and Amar Makhtar, 20, as software developers.
The new recruits will work on the development of Smartworks IT's Spine Message Handler, an internal networking tool developed for the health sector. This allows doctors to refer patients to consultants via automated interaction between the IT systems of a GP surgery and a hospital. They can also immediately see where there is availability for a patient, making access to healthcare more flexible. The software also enables authorised agencies, such as hospitals and social care providers, to update a patient's NHS record leading to more accurate and consistent healthcare information.
Sardar Jaf originally moved in 2000 from Kurdistan to the North East and later studied Internet Computing at Northumbria University. At Smartworks IT he will now work on projects, using his skills in areas such as database design, software administration, analysis and programming.
Amar Makhtar joined Smartworks IT for a 12 months' placement as part of his degree in Computer Science at Northumbria University. Before university, Amar was a student at Ponteland High School.
Smartworks IT managing director David Lavery was very positive about the choice of IT graduates in the region. He said: "We were very impressed with the calibre of IT graduates we have seen come from our universities."
