GLOBAL RECOGNITION FOR TRACKAPHONE'S INNOVATION

31 October 2008

North East technology firm TrackaPhone has just returned from Prague with a Global Innovation Award. They received this major recognition at the VMA Conference, which every year brings together the international voice enhanced industry, which this year was sponsored by Telefonica-O2.

TrackaPhone, which is based in the Fabriam Centre in North Tyneside, combined its award winning location based platform with voice as a key location technology as well as providing voice recordings.

Phil Derry, Trackaphone's chief executive officer, explains: "Our technology has various applications such as lone worker protection, mobile resource management, vehicle tracking, telehealth & care and the emerging friends & family markets. We are also currently undertaking additional research to incorporate voice biometrics to not only "Who" is speaking but "Where" they are and are they "Safe".

TrackaPhone works closely with Northumbria University's School of Psychology, who are developing "mobility profiles" for the aged population. These profiles will help to design services in-line with Government programmes such as the 'Safe Waling' initiative.

The technology firm has grown impressively since its inception, achieving a turnover growth of 100% each year. Its in-house developed tracking platform has the ability to work worldwide, using SIM Card, GSM, GPS, WiFi and Satellite technology.

TrackaPhone has over 200 organisations on its service. Clients include the police, local government, the NHS, transport and logistics companies, retail, utilities and many corporate entities both large and small. Its second annual TAPEX (Trackaphone Exhibition) will be held in London on 4 November and has been sold out some weeks ago.

John Williams, general manager of Fabriam, said: "It is very encouraging to see North East companies developing intellectual property and service excellence that is recognised by their peers and key industry bodies."
